Data Notes

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we take a moment to reflect on the persistent disparities that exist among different racial and ethnic groups in the United States. In his ‘I Have A Dream Speech,’ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. specifically highlighted poverty as a significant obstacle faced by many African Americans. Unfortunately, this challenge still persists today and disproportionately affects the African American community.

This tool allows you to explore various topics, such as poverty, educational attainment, and more to examine how economic and social traits differ among different racial and ethnic groups in the United States and within each state. The data visualization presented here was crafted using a Python script to access the Census Bureau’s API and gather information from the American Community Survey. Subsequently, Tableau was employed to create and display this visualization.
