Data Notes

Recently, we explored how lonely Americans are and broke it out by household income, age, marital status, educational attainment, and other topics. Last year, the Surgeon General issued an advisory to raise awareness about how devastating loneliness and isolation are to the population and their health. It’s vital for us to the understand Americans and their potential future health outcomes.

Leveraging data from the Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey, this data visualization explores how lonely people are with a geographic breakout. This visual looks at it by the state they live in.

To gather the data, I utilized a Python script to scrape the data from the Census Bureau’s FTP and visualized the data through Tableau.
