What U.S. Counties Have the Highest Percentage of Young Adults in College?

Data Notes

To celebrate March Madness starting this week, we created this county level data visualization to show what areas of the United States have the most young adults in college. College attendance is defined as those in an college or gradute program. Young adults refer to those that are 18 to 24 years old.

You can select if you want to see the statisics as a percentage of the population or the total count. You can also filter by state to see how things look in your state.

Finally, you are able to break out the data by males and females. Females are much more likely to be in college as young adults.

To gather this data, I used a python script to access the Census Bureau’s API. Specifically, the 2022 American Community Survey 5-year estimates. I then visualized the data using Tableau.
